KoolShade was installed on three windows on the South East facing side of the building. The screens were attached directly to the window.
Why was Koolshade chosen?
As the building faces south east, every office suffers from intense heat gain from the sun during the morning and early afternoon. Air conditioning is therefore necessary for most of the year. The glare from the sun, also makes working on computers difficult. Most users currently need to close blinds or curtains to work comfortably, thereby blocking all light from the offices and obscuring the view.
How has KoolShade performed?
KoolShade was installed in July 2005 and since then most of the time it has not been necessary to use air conditioning. Except for early morning and late evening it has not been necessary to use blinds to reduce the glare.
"The (KoolShade) screens are fantastic, my office is now so much cooler and comfortable to work in. Most of the time I don't have to worry about the air-conditioning or blinds"
KoolShade test
Since July 2005, regular temperature tests have been performed to assess the efficiency of KoolShade. On sunny days KoolShade has reduced temperatures between 8 and 18ºc next to the window. The photographs below were taken on April 18th 2006 at 11.00am, a sunny day with patchy clouds.
