The latest advance using the KoolShade technology involves sandwiching KoolShade between glass, so that buildings can enjoy the many benefits of KoolShade without installing an extra layer to the building.

Koolglass - sandwich

Koolglass is a high performance laminated vision glass which provides unparalleled solar control and outward visibility. The product consists of Koolshade sandwiched between two interlayers and two lites of glass to create a monolithic unit. Unlike products such as films or coatings, Koolshade blocks 100% of direct solar radiation at solar profile angles of 27 degrees or greater. Since visible light transmission through Koolglass is therefore indirect and reflected , glare is virtually eliminated and daylighting can be fully utilized as a design element.

Although any type of glass can be used in the laminate, it is unnecessary to use tinted or reflective glazings in order to control heat gain. East, west and south facing walls using Koolglass are effectively transformed into northlight conditions and can thus be incorporated into the building without overhangs and without the problem of excessive solar radiation. In most cases, interior shades need only be used for privacy. The result is greater freedom of design, a dramatic increase in the comfort of the building occupants, and a substantial decrease in air conditioning loads during periods of solar gain.
